Chapter 305

Selene suddenly remembered something. "Isn't Rutherford Group hiring right now? They should have a suitable position for Chloe. Let me call Tristan."

Damien smiled approvingly. "That would be perfect."

Chloe knew about Tristan Rutherford. She'd heard he grew up with Damien and had always admired Selene. Whenever Selene needed anything, Tristan would move mountains to help her.

She wanted to protest about not needing favors, but Rosalie Lancaster cut in first. "Thank you, Selene! We truly appreciate your help with this."

Selene waved it off. "It's nothing."

The conversation shifted away from Chloe. Selene and Damien sat close together, speaking in hushed tones that excluded everyone else. Their effortless intimacy made Chloe think of Camille Hartwell, who was out shopping alone today.

Chloe leaned toward Giselle. "When is the divorce happening?"

It took Giselle a moment to realize Chloe meant Damien and Camille. She smirked. "Soon. There's just some asset division complications. Damien doesn't want Camille using money as an excuse to interfere with him and Selene, so he's settling all financial matters first."

Hearing Camille would receive assets, Chloe felt some relief. She'd assumed Damien would leave his wife with nothing, given how much he seemed to despise her.

The mention of assets clearly irritated Giselle. Without prompting, she added bitterly, "If Damien wasn't worried that bitch would run crying to Helena Harrington and block the divorce, he wouldn't give her a single cent."

Chloe murmured, "I see." After a pause, she asked, "So it's a small portion then?"

"Not exactly small." Giselle's lips twisted. "More than she deserves. Everything Damien's giving her was approved by Selene first. Just for appearances. It's not much."

Chloe understood. Given Damien's wealth, if Giselle was this upset, the amount must be substantial. That knowledge comforted her.

To Giselle, Camille's share might seem insignificant compared to Damien's total fortune. But Chloe knew even that "small" amount equaled what Damien had spent on Selene over the years. No wonder Giselle was sour - money she considered rightfully theirs was going to Camille.

Giselle suddenly remembered Selene's suggestion about Rutherford Group. She shot Chloe a sharp look. "Once you're there, keep an eye on Tristan for me. Don't let other women near him, understand?"

Chloe had heard from Rosalie about Giselle's unrequited crush on Tristan, one of Lucerne's most eligible bachelors. Unsure how to respond, Chloe hesitated. "That...it's not confirmed yet. I might not even get the position."

Giselle scoffed. "You don't know Tristan. If Selene asks, he'll say yes immediately."

Chloe could only murmur, "Oh..."

Damien had business to attend to and prepared to leave. The Lancaster and Harrington families held him in such high regard that everyone escorted him out.

Rosalie wanted Chloe established in Lucerne quickly. After Damien left, she reminded Selene about the job request.

Seeing an opportunity, Selene took out her phone to call Tristan.

But the line rang endlessly with no answer.
