She Left the CEO and Reclaimed Her Empire

Chapter 216

Damien smiled. Indeed. It's quite impressive.

After speaking, he glanced at her. "Shouldn't you be working on your exhibition pieces? What brings you here?"

"Well," she shrugged, "I didn't want you thinking I'm neglecting my hosting duties."

"Go focus on your art," he waved dismissively. "Don't distract me from the game."

Yet Gabriel remained.

When the Lancasters heard Damien and Gabriel praising Selene, proud smiles spread across their faces.

Many guests recognized Selene, their expressions a mix of admiration and envy.

Selene possessed both beauty and intellect. Now her chess skills had captured the attention of Gabriel and Damien.

Moreover, her charm had won Damien's affection, elevating the Lancasters' social standing effortlessly.

What parent wouldn't desire such a daughter?

"Your daughter and granddaughter are truly remarkable," one guest remarked enviously to the Lancasters.

"Absolutely!" others chimed in. "How did you raise such an accomplished young woman? Lady Lancaster, Mrs. Lancaster, we'd love to hear your secrets."

Soon, a circle of society ladies surrounded the Lancasters.

The lavish praise for Selene made Sabrina beam with pride.

She shot a glance at Camille, whispering smugly to Giselle, "She's clearly no match for Selene, is she?" Helena's expression darkened at the comparison between her daughter and Camille.

Rosalie and Malcolm overheard Sabrina's remark.

Their gazes shifted to Camille.

Selene outshone Camille in every conceivable way.

They turned back to Selene, their eyes filled with adoration.

Just then, Selene stood. Facing Damien, she said gracefully, "My apologies, I lost."

Damien smiled warmly. "The outcome matters little. You performed exceptionally. Not everyone can match that young man from the Harringtons. Besides," he added, "it's rare to find someone as scholarly and skilled at chess as you."

Flattered, Selene smiled. "You're too kind, Mr. Harrington."

"Care for another match?" Damien offered.

Selene shook her head. "One attempt suffices. Let others have their turn."

Damien scanned the room. "Would anyone else like to try?"

Tristan's gaze flicked to Damien, catching him holding a chess piece while staring intently.

At that moment, Camille stepped forward. Meeting Damien's eyes directly, she asked, "Shall we play a game?"

Damien froze momentarily, studying her.

Shocked, Tristan turned to stare at Camille.

He couldn't believe she'd openly challenge Damien to chess in this setting.

Tristan wasn't the only surprised one. The Lancasters, especially Selene, looked utterly astonished. She'd never expected such boldness from Camille.

Given Camille's usual reserved nature, Selene assumed she'd never publicly request a chess match with Damien.

Yet here she was.

The Lancasters frowned collectively.

Rosalie muttered, "I should have warned her beforehand if I'd known she'd pull this stunt."
