Chapter 438: Sunlight Streamed Through the Blinds

Sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting dappled patterns across the office floor.

"Captain Stone!" The commander's booming voice echoed through the room. "Your team has accomplished something remarkable."

Adrian Stone stood at attention before the desk, his military uniform impeccably pressed.

"High Command has decided to award all three of you the First-Class Merit." The commander flipped open a file. "You're being promoted to T-level position, Hank Miller will become squad leader, and Dr. Elena Ward receives an exceptional promotion to Grade Nine."

"Sir!" Adrian's voice was firm. "We won't let you down."

The commander suddenly closed the file and gave him a meaningful look. "However... there's another transfer order."

Adrian's pulse quickened.

"After next month's rotation, you'll be reassigned to the capital." The commander paused. "This was your father's decision."

Adrian's brow furrowed slightly. "Permission to speak freely, sir. What about Dr. Ward and the others?"

"Dr. Ward?" The commander scanned the documents. "She's being transferred to Northland Province Hospital. That young woman truly has exceptional medical skills..."

"Sir!" Adrian interrupted abruptly. "I request to be transferred to Northland Province instead."

"What?" The commander's head snapped up. "Have you lost your mind? The capital offers far better opportunities!"

"I want to earn my position through merit." Adrian's gaze remained steady.

The commander narrowed his eyes. "The truth, soldier!"

Adrian swallowed hard. "Elena... is my fiancée."

The commander burst into laughter. "Well played, son! You kept that quiet!"

He stood and slammed his palm on the desk. "Approved!"

A faint smile touched Adrian's lips. "Thank you, sir!"

"But..." The commander lowered his voice. "Your father..."

"I'll handle it." Adrian's expression was resolute.

The commander clapped him on the shoulder. "Very well. Don't disappoint that young woman."

Stepping out of the office, Adrian gazed at the distant mountain range, a tender smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
